While your comments are interesting, inability to do the splits is usually the result of IMPROPER BODY POSITION, meaning, the ligaments and tendons are "mis-aligned" during stretching due to the posture of the way most people stretch. When you feel pain in the hips, this is usually, not always, a sign of improper alignment. The problem with most street dancers is not enough work on standard standing postures and how ligaments and tendons are supposed to be aligned to achieve high level flexiblity. Also, high sugar diets impair flexibility, and obviously, mind and emotional tension doesn't help.
